hautnah

In the organizer's words:

SKIN and CLOSENESS immediately bring to mind touch. The title "hautnah" describes this special closeness that precedes a touch. This is exactly what the paintings, objects and sculptures by the artist trio Brigitte Mekelburg, Helmut Brandt and Kalle Paltzer are all about.

While Brandt removes wafer-thin acrylic paint skins from glass plates and transfers them to canvases as smooth, broken, cracked or fragmented layers, Paltzer's layers of paper suggest injuries, veins, skeletons and fragility. Mekelburg uses plaster, wax and casein paint for her peculiar creations, which move between the organic and the designed.

What all the works have in common is that they encourage viewers to touch the surfaces rather than just "feel them with their eyes".
