In the organizer's words:
Heaven Can Wait Choir
Still Alive – Now More Than Ever!
For over 10 years, the Heaven Can Wait Choir from Hamburg (HCW) has been winning over audiences. Ever since the successful movie about the choir, the show has been causing a sensation across Germany and selling out venues. And because you’re never too old to try something new, even if you’re over 70, these young-at-heart seniors are now launching a new program: “Now more than ever!”
The success story of the Heaven Can Wait Choir continues! Around 35 singers aged between 70 and 93 belt out the songs of their grandchildren’s generation, charmingly shattering common stereotypes about retired seniors. Once again, their repertoire includes—far from “age-appropriate”—current hits that everyone knows. In their interpretation, however, the songs take on a different effect, for from the perspective of these life-experienced individuals, they gain a depth that is surprising.
What’s new and special about the “Jetzt erst recht!” program is that, for the first time, the choir is also presenting songs they composed and wrote themselves. Moving songs that tackle topics rarely addressed in the world of young pop music: What is the meaning of life? What does happiness mean? How do I face the topic of death? Big questions that are presented in the tried-and-true HCW style—with passion and a good dose of humor—while radiating wisdom without being preachy.
And so the (G)Oldies are rocking the stage once again with their new program: colorful, young, and sassy, they sing and rap, dance and groove. With “Jetzt erst recht!” (Now more than ever!), Hamburg’s oldest, yet at the same time youngest, and certainly most colorful choir adds a new dimension to its repertoire.
