What is happiness? This question arises for Hector the more unhappy people he meets. And he meets a lot of them, because he is a psychiatrist. But even a good psychiatrist like Hector, who takes an interest in his patients and really listens to them, can't turn unhappiness into happiness. Do the pills his girlfriend Clara sells help? Hector can't let go of the question of happiness and his search for it takes him around the world. He travels to China, Africa and America and meets many different people who all have different ideas about what happiness could be.

François Lelord's novel, published in 2002, quickly became a global success and was made into a film in 2014. Lelord's own experiences as a psychiatrist inspired his writing - and so Hector became the protagonist of a series of novels dedicated to very different elementary aspects of life. The Niederdeutsche Bühne is now taking Hector on a world tour in a theater version of the novel - focusing on the question that really affects everyone: what is happiness?
