Heike Trinker liest Carl Jonas Love Almqvist »Die Woche mit Sara«

On Saturday, October 28, we cordially invite you to the reading of the short novel "The Week with Sara" by the Swedish writer and composer Carl Jonas Love Almqvist, starting at 7 pm. The novel, which is almost 200 years old, will be selected and read by the actress Heike Trinker.

About the novel
A storm of indignation broke out among the Swedish public when Almqvist's short novel "The Week with Sara" appeared in 1839. Described by himself as an "insignificant little play," this book - far ahead of its time - is a plea for equal rights for women. Almqvist had recognized the need to democratize society; for him, gender equality became a key issue. His relentless criticism of marriage as an institution, of the forms and constraints of cohabitation that were passed off as God-given and unchangeable, earned him abuse as a "corrupter of morals" and a "seducer of youth."

On a boat trip, Sara, the daughter of a master glazier, and Albert, a young sergeant, meet. The two young people become a traveling companionship that is marked by attraction and irritation from the very first moment. For Sara turns all conventional manners upside down, unsettles and provokes the interested travel companion by her self-confident appearance and her free speeches. This almost 200-year-old story casts a spell. Amazed and amused, we accompany the couple on their entertaining journey through the picturesque landscape of Sweden.

About Heike Trinker
Heike Trinker, born in Nortorf, Schleswig-Holstein, first studied theology for 11 semesters. She then studied acting at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main, graduating with a diploma. She has worked at the State Theaters in Hanover and Saarbrücken, in Bielefeld, Constance and Essen, among others.
Since 2002 Heike Trinker has been working mainly for TV, starting with various series in which she was seen in leading roles. She supports the Kinderkinofestival Schwäbisch-Gmünd through her work as an acting coach and director. And she is a regular guest in salons and at literary events with readings on various topics.

Heike Trinker lives in Cologne.
