In his latest book, British author James Miller (William Shimell) deals with the question of the significance of copies in art history. He also presents his theses in person during a reading tour through Italy. The antiques dealer Elle (Juliette Binoche) is interested in the fascinating art-historical topic because of her business, but is also fascinated by Miller himself. She would like to spend more time with the author to philosophize about various issues. Fortunately, she is successful with her strategy of leaving her address with Miller's publisher. The curious author visits Elle and even agrees to go on a short trip. The two get to know each other better as they talk about art, love and other topics. Genuine feelings develop from initial curiosity.
