Merve grew up in transit, between expressways, show houses and plastic plants. Here, where time seems to have stood still, her grandfather gets drunk on pop music and her father prepares for the end of the world. Merve just wants to get away; she longs to finally ascend to the ideal. There, people are effortlessly beautiful, they realize themselves, they know something about consensus and kimchi. Instead of routines, they have found their rhythm. The promise: If you work hard enough on yourself, you can be something special. In the ideal, Merve also hopes to find her mother again, who disappeared when she was a small child.
Shortly before the ascent, Merve meets Sven; Sven, who is loving and quick-witted, but wants to stay in transit. Suddenly Merve has doubts: will she lose something if she continues to strive for the ideal? And is it worth hoping at all while one crisis follows the next?
Endzeitgemäß is a contemporary and intelligent debut that tells of the search for a happy and fulfilled life in an end time that is suspiciously close to our present.
