Unfortunately, we have to cancel the concert by Duo Melodic on Wednesday, November 19, as the musicians are unable to attend at short notice for family reasons.
There will be a replacement concert on January 14, 2026. Bassem Hawar and singer Cora Schmeiser will then present the monophonic repertoire of the Notre Dame school in Paris in the 13th century in dialog with Iraqi maqam under the title Nostre dame مَريم العذراء.

Iraqi-born musicians Saad Mahmood Jawad and Bassem Hawar have been playing together as Duo Melodic since 2002 and maintain an intensive artistic exchange, even though they live far apart - Saad in Manama, Bahrain and Bassem in Cologne. The artists have developed and perfected modern playing techniques on their old oriental instruments, the oud and the djoze (knee violin). Their compositions leave plenty of room for improvisation. They are inspired by southern Iraqi folk songs, classical maqam, Persian and Turkish sounds, whose soul they wish to preserve and at the same time transport into a modern context.
