Opera
Performance inspired by Björk's "Homogenic" by Liesa van der Aa, Kat Frankie and BODIES
English spoken language with German surtitles
For several years now, the opera department of the Nationaltheater Mannheim has been intensively exploring the question of how pop music can not only influence contemporary music theater, but also fundamentally expand it. Time and again, one artist has proved to be a particular source of inspiration for new theatrical forms: Björk. With her radical combination of pop, electronics, emotionality and conceptual art, she creates spaces in which music theater can be rethought. Based on her iconic album "Homogenic", the Belgian director, composer and conductor Liesa van der Aa, the singer-songwriter Kat Frankie and her vocal ensemble B O D I E S now meet on a basketball court. The referee blows her whistle - the game begins. Something hits the ground: a ball, a beat, a heartbeat? What initially appears to be a sporting match soon turns out to be a game in which nothing less than the human condition is negotiated. The result is an evening about rules and their consequences, about roles that we voluntarily assume or are involuntarily assigned, as well as about competition, community and vulnerability. Fans of the opera version of Björk's "Vespertine" should definitely not miss this guest performance! A project of the Neuköllner Oper in cooperation with One Trick Pony. Supported by the Hauptstadtkulturfonds. A cooperation with Musicboard Berlin.
