Im Demenzlabyrinth: Zeichnungen von Albin Zauner
In the organizer's words:
The book "Im Demenzlabyrinth" is a graphic novel by art therapist Albin Zauner. In his illustrated story, he tells of the experiences of a writer suffering from Alzheimer's dementia. The focus is on the protagonist's inner world of experience.
Is it possible to use drawings to tell the story of how people with dementia experience and cope with their everyday lives or fail to do so? Art therapist Albin Zauner has achieved this feat. In his drawings, he condenses the impressions of his 15 years of work with people with dementia into pictures that speak volumes.
The dementia process is characterized by elementary experiences of loss and it becomes particularly serious when the experience of being understood is also eroded. This leads to great loneliness. Albin Zauner wants to make this lonely space, which is characterized by a loss of language and orientation, comprehensible with his pictorial symbolism.
The original drawings he created for the graphic novel can be seen as part of our "In the Dementia Labyrinth" series of events during the main event week.
