Music Salon // Pop: song and conversation

The links between past and present have been unbroken in Latvia for centuries; reflections of musical traditions and old instruments are an integral part of musical culture. The same is true of the band Tautumeitas, who we are presenting at two events this season following the great success of their concert at "Ella & Louis" last year: on Saturday evening in an intimate salon talk in the Werkhaus lobby and on Sunday on the main stage at OPAL. Tautumeitas describe their music as "ethnopop" and several members of the group have actually studied ethno-musicology - so they are well prepared to answer our curious questions in the music salon talk evening. For example, did you know what role choral singing played in the Latvian revolution in 1991? We have brought in our Latvian bandleader Jānis Liepiņš to support us, who will also accompany some songs on the piano.
