In Nie Pastille's art, this power is both tangible and visible. Her objects do not follow the fixed paths of a single medium, but combine a wide variety of materials such as wood, wool, canvas, fabrics, pigments, leaves and twigs. They are irregular shapes that have no rectangular frame. Fabrics that are painted and sewn at the same time, that curve and hang. Plywood that has been sawn out like a body, not like a picture. Colors that do not decorate, but urge. The pictures look like creatures that have taken air into their lungs, broken out of their frames and are now roaming through the gallery space. Each work exists on its own, but together they form a mysterious, anarchic community. The work seems to be the result of a negotiation between artist and material - and the material has had its say, or rather: it has been followed.
