IRISH THEATRE BERLIN: Cascando

In the organizer's words:

Wrapped in dark cloaks and equipped with headphones, the audience embarks on a rhythmic, immersive, choreographic experience. Accompany Samuel Beckett's curious characters from his radio play of the same name into an uncertain future!

The performance walk begins with the strange figure of the Opener, who sets the scene: the month of May, a time of "reawakening". The Opener commands two other presences: the writhing Voice, torn between lingering and progressing, and Music, utterly powerful.

Pan Pan Theatre see the piece as a journey. Participants will walk in an (urban) landscape, wear capes and listen to the piece through headphones. The unhurried pace of Andrew Bennett's deep and captivating voice sets a rhythm to the steps as participants listen to Voice struggle to tell a story. An absent figure named Woburn is introduced through his "same old coat" and vague memories of a cave or shelter.

Jimmy Eadie's music rises in a wave of crashing strings to finally resound with the inner turmoil of Voice full of longing.

The journey through time starts at the Irish Embassy in Berlin-Mitte.
