In 1995, psychoanalyst and writer Jacqueline Harpman (1929-2012) wrote a merciless dystopia about 40 women held in an underground prison. They have lost all sense of time and have only a vague idea of their old lives. The six silent guards in uniform do not speak to them or touch them. One day an alarm sounds, the guards disappear and the door is open! The women enter a world that they do not recognize and in which they have to find structures for living together. I Who Have Never Known Men became a BookTok sensation in the USA in 2025 under the title "I Who Have Never Known Men", the rediscovery of the year: "A moving and captivating novel" (Dua Lipa).
