In the organizer's words:
Documentary by Mohammed Bakri (2024) 60 min., Original with English subtitles
In 2002, Palestinian actor and director Mohammed Bakri made a documentary about the brutal Israeli invasion of the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank.
The Israeli judiciary attempted to suppress this film, but failed. Now history seems to be repeating itself.
In 2023, the Israeli army launched another wave of destructive attacks on Jenin, and once again, Mohammed Bakri was on the ground with his film crew to create a powerful testimony to the consequences of this devastation.
A testimony to violence and destruction, but also a portrait of the residents of Jenin—fragile, yet unbroken.
We encounter immeasurable suffering, but also the will to live and the dignity of people exposed to ongoing violence.
The great actor and director died in 2025 at the age of 72.
Gaza Committee Cinema
We are out on the streets; we organize lectures.
Now the Gaza Committee is opening a cinema for works from and about Palestine. Bringing history to life, making history tangible—what better way to do that than through film, whether documentary or feature?
We had our premiere as part of the “Palestine Cinema Days” in November 2025.
On International Women’s Day, we screened “Naila and the Uprising,” which took us back to the time of the Second Intifada.
In May: “Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk,” a film from Gaza, terribly timely.
Our next movie night brings together the past and the present:
“Janin…Jenin” connects the attacks on the Jenin refugee camp in 2002 with the current situation.
