Lecture by Prof. Masayo Ave

Accompanying the exhibition Japanese Design Today 100, an in-depth lecture on Japanese design will be offered.

Prof. Masayo Ave is a Japanese designer who has lived in Europe for over three decades and represents a unique blend of cultural and disciplinary synthesis. In her introductory lecture on Japanese design, she will discuss new perspectives on the future of everyday objects from a Japanese point of view.

The lecture will begin with a story about traditional lifestyles and design practices from the 17th century that are deeply rooted in sustainable practices known as "Mottainai". The lecture will also talk about the development of Japanese industrial design through behind-the-scenes stories that show the connection between Japanese craft traditions and modern technology.

The lecture will be held in English without translation.
