Jil Sander, who recently celebrated her 80th birthday, is today regarded as the most important German fashion designer. Her radical minimalism, her pure, timeless design, influenced by Bauhaus and German classicism, revolutionized women's fashion worldwide.
The Hamburg-born designer's motto: "Less is more, but only the best of the little", has set aesthetic exclamation marks right up to the present day, which are characterized by buzzwords such as "sustainability" and "quiet luxury".
Unlike the two other world-famous German designers Karl Lagerfeld and Wolfgang Joop, Jil Sander, the "Queen of less", has always remained shy of publicity. In her sensitive portrait, author Maria Wiesner now attempts "An Approach" (HarperCollins) to the ambitious and enigmatic artist.
To mark the publication of this first biography, the Allach-Untermenzing City Library invites you to an exciting reading as part of its "Allach Literature Days" series of events. The FAZ journalist will read passages from her book and then answer questions from the audience.
