Jochen Malmsheimer & Uwe Rössler - Zwei Füße für ein Halleluja - Mit einem Regenten unterwegs
In the organizer's words:
Two Feet for a Hallelujah – On the Road with a Ruler.
A historical skit in walking mode
by and starring Jochen Malmsheimer & Uwe Rössler
The era of the Investiture Controversy begins with King Henry IV’s adventurous crossing of the Alps in January 1077, which led him to the gates of Canossa Castle in northern Italy. There, Pope Gregory VII had sought refuge from the approaching king with Margravine Matilda of Tuscany.
Henry IV undertook the arduous and extremely perilous journey to Canossa to secure the lifting of the papal excommunication and thus save his reign. So much for the history.
With “Two Feet for a Hallelujah—On the Road with a Ruler,” Jochen Malmsheimer and his musical partner Uwe Rössler present an introduction to the Canossa theme that is as witty as it is entertaining.
They explore key questions surrounding the Canossa Walk:
How far can one go?
And above all: why go to Italy—and on foot, no less?
What do you actually wear when you meet the Pope?
What are the real reasons for the utter nonsense of calling monotonous squeaking
and honking “medieval music”?
And above all: What makes the profession of king so appealing when both the Saxons and the Pope make your life a living hell?
Jochen Malmsheimer breathes new life into the Salian emperor, and Uwe Rössler accompanies this highly entertaining journey into the everyday life and mindset of the Middle Ages with original sounds, thrilling the audience with a dazzling ride through music history from Bach to Brahms.
For nothing is as it was—Deo gratias et in excelsis jubilo.
