In Japan, around 100,000 people disappear every year, some of them with the help of night moving companies. Some flee from an unhappy relationship, others cannot withstand the enormous social pressure, others try to free themselves from criminal entanglements. With JOHATSU (蒸発 - "evaporate"), Arata Mori and Andreas Hartmann embark on an emotional quest: those who have stayed behind, helpers and those who have gone into hiding are all confronted with a wide variety of challenges. The question of their own identity thus arises with overwhelming urgency.
The directing duo not only takes a look behind the scenes of the obscure practice of disappearance, but also penetrates deep into human nature, creating a very peotic work.
We look forward to an audience discussion with director Andreas Hartmann after the screening.
ATTENTION: The screening will take place in Körnerpark on the corner of Jonasstraße and Selkestraße in Berlin-Neukölln.
Free admission, but donations for the project are of course welcome.
