30 Years of JUD – A Wonderful Journey

It’s rare for a music project to transcend all boundaries and find its way into the hearts of people searching for something they can truly call their own. With the release of “Something Better” in 1996, JUD achieved exactly that.

For David (DJC), JUD began as a creative outlet following his time with Damn The Machine. But with each new release, it became clearer that JUD was far more than just a collection of songs. It evolved into a connection with a global underground community of people who longed for music that defied any specific genre.

Even today, this idea is more alive than ever.

JUD brings together people who are searching for their place in the world. To this day, the band refuses to be pigeonholed into a narrow musical category. Instead, they create soundscapes that get under your skin—raw, honest, and free of rules.

JUD’s sound is dark, heavy, and melancholic. Yet that is precisely where its special power lies. Oscillating between raw energy and fragile beauty, the songs tell of loss, hope, longing, and new beginnings. They peer into the shadows of life without ever losing sight of the light.

The unmistakable style of all six JUD releases has been significantly shaped by David’s life journey—from his childhood in the U.S. state of Virginia, through the Los Angeles music scene of the 1980s and 1990s, to his later life in Germany.

As David himself says:

“I never felt like I fit the image of a typical American. Moving to Europe was a wonderful step for me, my soul, and my music.”

Ever since the first demo in 1995—produced by none other than Ross Robinson—fans have been accompanying JUD on an extraordinary journey. Over three decades, a family of musicians, producers, friends, and fans has formed around this special independent project.

Even before social media transformed the music world, extensive tours and the albums *Innermission* (1997), *Chasing California* (1998), *Perfect Life* (1999), “Sufferboy” (2008), and “Generation Vulture” (2014) a musical legacy that continues to resonate to this day. For many, JUD is more than just a band—JUD became the soundtrack to a chapter of their lives.

2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the release of “Something Better.” This anniversary is the perfect occasion to continue writing the story of JUD right where it never really ended.

David & Friends are bringing the music of JUD (1996–2014) back to the stage and celebrating together with the people who have been part of this journey. It will be an evening full of memories, encounters, and new moments—intense, honest, and emotional.

Because JUD was never just music. JUD is a feeling. A community. A home for people who forge their own path.
