Karyn was born in London and moved to Canada with her parents as a toddler, where she grew up in Toronto, in a home full of jazz and classical music; she later studied opera singing for two years. These influences and her fondness for Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen gave Karyn a solid and versatile musical foundation and enrich her distinctive folk and roots style.
