Keane celebrate 20th anniversary of their debut album
"Hopes and Fears" Remastered to bereleased May 10, 2024
2024 world tour includes show in Cologne
Keane will release a special remastered version of "Hopes and Fears," undoubtedly one of the best debut albums of all time, on May 10, 2024, exactly 20 years after its initial release.
On the same day, the band plays London's 02 Arena as part of a world tour that begins April 1 in Mexico City before reaching Europe and the United Kingdom. Their U.S. tour in September includes prestigious dates at the Greek Theatre in LA, the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
"Hopes and Fears" was a breakthrough album for Keane, breaking all kinds of records. It is one of the best-selling albums in the history of the UK charts, selling over 2.5 million copies in the UK and one million in the US in its first year, driven by their absolute classic "Somewhere Only We Know." "Hopes and Fears" went 9-times platinum in the UK, a remarkable achievement. The album has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.
Keane emerged along with a new vanguard of bands that would change the music world: Snow Patrol, Scissor Sisters, The Killers and Coldplay. They were the first to create a sound that was all about keyboards, which added to the emotional appeal of their songs. "Everybody's Changing" from "Hopes and Fears" became a fan favorite and a Top 5 hit.
In 2004, Keane were the best-selling British artists in the United Kingdom. The following year they won two BRIT Awards: The Best British Album award for "Hopes and Fears" and the British Breakthrough act award, voted for by Radio 1 listeners.
"Somewhere Only We Know" recently enjoyed a revival on Tik Tok, going viral in Indonesia and igniting the spark for a worldwide renaissance for the track, which is currently logging two million Spotify streams per day and has become Island Records' best-selling single in the last 12 months. In total, the song has been streamed over one billion times.
Next year's tour will celebrate Keane's acclaimed body of work, from their stunning debut "Hopes and Fears" to their 2019 studio album "Cause and Effect."
Lead singer Tom Chaplin says, "I remember standing at this amazing old mixing board at Heliocentric Studios, where we recorded Hopes and Fears, listening to an early mix of Somewhere Only We Know. I felt like we had created something that had a little more magic to it. Making music is so often a process full of doubt... but in this case, there was something undeniable about what we had created. Obviously, a lot of people felt the same when the album came out!"
Founding member and songwriter of the band Tim Rice-Oxley said, "When I think of those songs, I still picture us playing them in small rooms in pubs all over the UK. I remember how exciting it was to watch the crowds start to grow. Those songs opened the door to another dimension for us; everything that has happened in our lives since then was born out of that moment. It's an incredible privilege for us that people are still listening after all this time."
