This evening spans a spectrum from free improvisation in “I am not a tale to be told” by Iranian composer Golfam Khayam to precisely notated bird calls in Olivier Messiaen’s “Oiseaux exotiques.” Joseph Haydn’s Symphony in G minor combines classical clarity with dramatic energy, while Maurice Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand transforms limitation into the greatest freedom. The program concludes with Franz Schreker’s “Nachtstück”: a liminal state of longing and memory.
