Kindercomic-Veranstaltung mit Autorin und Illustratorin Andrea Offermann in der Hamburger Kunsthalle
In the organizer's words:
When the Nazis began removing “degenerate” art, Wilhelm Werner, the custodian at the Hamburger Kunsthalle, made a courageous decision: He hid seven paintings by the artist Anita Rée in his staff quarters—thus saving them from destruction.
In her latest book, Andrea Offermann tells the true story of Mr. Werner. For her research, she spoke with family members, reviewed archival material, and worked closely with the Hamburger Kunsthalle. The result is a non-fiction graphic novel for readers ages 10 and up that excitingly combines history and art.
The striking illustrations from the book, shown during the reading, bring this extraordinary story to life. A conversation with Andrea Offermann, Wilhelm Werner’s granddaughter, and Dr. Ulrich Luckhardt (former curator of Classical Modernism) highlights how courage can grow even in dark times and how individuals can take responsibility.
