The Ballhof as a place of Hitler Youth, a house in Knochenhauerstraße as a so-called "Jews' house" or the former restaurant "Alt-Hannover" as an SA pub - these are inconspicuous places that are all strongly linked to Hanover's National Socialist past. How did the National Socialist era change life in Hanover and what traces has it left behind to this day?

As in the entire former Reich, exclusion, persecution and propaganda became part of everyday life in Hanover under the Nazi regime. Using historical sites around the Hohe Ufer and selected biographies of people from the city, we look at Hanover's history from 1933 to 1945 and also take a look at the post-history of the "Third Reich" and today's culture of remembrance. We will not only look at the history of National Socialist persecution, but also at examples of courage and civil courage.
