Kino Weltsichten: Die Möllner Briefe
In the organizer's words:
Anyone who missed the cinema tour now has another chance - the International Women's Film Festival Dortmund+Cologne is showing the documentary The Mölln Letters by Martina Priessner in cooperation with the initiative Herkesin Meydanı - Platz für alle.
1992: Right-wing extremist arson attacks on two residential buildings in Mölln. In the aftermath, countless letters of solidarity that never reached those affected and instead disappeared into the archives. İbrahim Arslan and his family enter into a dialog with the authorities, seek contact with the letter writers and show what a culture of remembrance that listens to them could look like.
Möllner Briefe was the opening film of the International Women's Film Festival Dortmund+Cologne 2025.
Free admission.
Moderation: Fatoş Tuna, IFFF Dortmund+Cologne
The film will be shown in the original language with English subtitles.
The initiative Herkesin Meydanı - Platz für alle came together in 2019 to campaign for the erection of the memorial on Keupstraße in Cologne. Although this year marks the 22nd anniversary of the nail bomb attack on Keupstraße, there is still no memorial on the street. Together with those affected, local residents, artists, activists and other initiatives, they are fighting for a victim-centered remembrance. They are also actively involved in the nationwide networking of people affected by racist violence and stand up for their concerns and demands.
Understanding, openness and coming into contact with people of different nationalities and origins are the motives for the film series Kino Weltsichten. People with and without an international history, women with refugee experience, their families and anyone interested in excellent, often rarely screened international films directed by women are cordially invited.
