Since its foundation in 1990, Ensemble Musikfabrik (Landesensemble NRW) has been one of the leading ensembles for contemporary music.

The Japanese Cultural Institute in Cologne will present a program that highlights the close musical and aesthetic relationship between Japan and contemporary European music. Works by Hans Zender - including 5 Haiku for string quartet, Tre Pezzi for oboe and Lo-Shu VI, Five Haikais for flute and cello - meet compositions by Cologne-based Malika Kishino, whose subtle tonal language is impressively showcased in Épanouissement for cello, Lamento for two violins and Nox (Gold and Silver) II for oboe, clarinet and string quartet.

The interplay creates a multifaceted insight into the Japanese-inspired soundscapes of two generations of composers.
