Club Energía invites you to an all-inclusive journey. Through the Port of Hamburg all the way to the El Cerrejón coal mine in La Guajira, northern Colombia. Past Colombia’s coca plantations and finally into the pulsating nightlife of a major German city in the summer. Cocaine, coal, capital. How do you get pumped up?

Millions of metric tons of coal leave northern Colombia on large ships to supply Germany’s coal-fired power plants with energy. Every day, thousands of people in Hamburg snort what Colombian farmers have produced for them: cocaine. Two energy kicks, one name.

A performative harbor tour awaits you, taking you to the coal port along retraced coke routes, before finally washing up in the depths of the club’s bass beats at Hafenklang. Global interdependencies, the sacred coca plant, indigenous culture, colonization and displacement, as well as crime and activism. A story of a failed coal phase-out and high-energy parties caught between activism and hedonism.

Concept and Performance: wirvier Collective (Valerie Usov, Paula Jütting, Farina Jäger-Stabenow, Lionel Tomm, Carlos Andrés Rico) and Colectivo Teatral Luz de Luna / Costume and Set Design: Janina Capelle / Video: Diana Sánchez / Artistic collaboration: Hafengruppe Hamburg and Colombia Solidaria / Graphics: Fanny Pokrandt / Production: Antonia Rehfueß
