Winter break at o-ton over - opening concert 2026

The new Südstadt location "o-ton" invites you to the opening of its third concert year 2026 with the special concert "PIANO / SpHear (II)" and takes this as an opportunity to toast the coming season at o-ton!

Once a year, the "SpHear" ensemble creates an exclusive special concert at o-ton with an exquisite (and elaborate) spatial sound installation and live improvisation. After last year's sold-out SpHear concert (in collaboration with the Kunstsalon Köln), we are now looking forward to welcoming all newcomers, new fans and new and "old" friends of the house to this event.

PIANO SpHear (II): What is a pianoforte, a piano?

WE ...take out the operating mechanism completely and thus remove a large part of the programming.
...give free rein to the tuning of the instrument, allowing it to tune itself and develop its own program of pitches.
...go from the inside to the outside by opening and destroying its programmed resonance space and replacing it with a space that we can determine ourselves.
...search for related sounds in the space opened up in this way, which we can hit, stroke, pluck and feel through a program of actions.
...record these "sound objects" and distribute them in space and time.

Added to this are our instruments bass clarinet, flute, prepared piano and all kinds of bizarre sound finds. The ingenious multi-channel loudspeaker installation, controlled by our own software (MAX programming by Robert Schleisiek), sets our sounds - live - in every conceivable movement in the room.
Just the way we like it.
