How do sound and movement change the relationship between man and artwork? The musicians of the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra will once again walk through the rooms of the MKM Museum Küppersmühle for Modern Art in Duisburg. Positive feedback and sold-out concerts have been the deciding factors for three more Wandelkonzerte, made possible by the generous support of Sparkasse Duisburg.
Visitors to the concerts are also invited to join in the movement and exploration of the sound spaces. The first concert in the continuation of the series "Sound and Image in Dialogue" on Wednesday, November 8, will focus on the works in the MKM's current temporary exhibitions. While the viewer of Christoph M. Gais' "Bilderwelten" will be confronted with faces from the time of the isolation of the Corona pandemic, the artworks "In Schwarz-Weiß und in Farbe" (In Black and White and in Color) by Heinz Kreutz will show us how a young, war-wounded soldier was seduced by cigarette packets into painting instead of smoking.
Using contemporary compositions as well as traditional music from other cultures, the musicians create new layers and surfaces that overlap with the paintings and open up new spaces for visitors. The artworks are "rediscovered through sounds and music to provide new angles and perspectives on the paintings," as director and curator Ludger Engels aptly summarizes the concept behind the sound installations.
