Kostprobe «True Crime: Die Thomaskatastrophe»

This time: “True Crime: The Thomas Catastrophe,” a live radio play by Coco Plümer, which premieres on September 18 at the Stadttheater’s Kleines Haus.

About the play: 
On December 15, 1875, a bomb exploded in Bremerhaven, causing far-reaching consequences. The worst of these were over a hundred deaths and massive damage to the harbor and the city. Psychologically and economically, the bomb—which was equipped with a time fuse and intended to be hidden on a passenger ship—caused enormous fear. And curiously, the perpetrator, William King Thomas, was a notorious con artist and criminal impostor.

The Stadttheater is presenting this hair-raising story as a true-crime radio play—complete with live sound effects and ambient noises. The production brings one of the most defining—and yet almost forgotten—events in the city’s history back to life.
