In this workshop, participants will encounter print as a trace and touch. Various relief-based processes will be tried out, including stamp printing and simple forms of surface work with linoleum plates, foam rubber or other materials.
Cutting and embossing create printing blocks that do not bear images, but structures. The surface is transferred to the paper by pressing, leaving behind subtle signs of resistance, depth and rhythm.
This results in quiet works on paper in which the focus is not on the motif, but on the memory of the material. Small sheets that can be collected, passed on or remain as fragile traces of a process.
