The presence of German automotive companies in Hungary has been growing since the 1990s. The car industry has become the central symbol of a complex capitalist system that shapes our everyday lives. The assembly line never stands still, the pace is constantly increasing, performance is optimized. Every two minutes a car leaves the factory, every two months a new theater production celebrates its premiere. Consumption creates jobs that further boost consumption, while the social gap continues to widen.
An actor and two workers from German premium car factories in Hungary turn their attention to this structure. Three personal stories come together on stage and open up new perspectives on work, community and belonging. In this state of permanent acceleration, can taking the time to get to know each other - and to put ourselves in each other's shoes - be an act of solidarity and resistance?
Following the great success of Hungarian Acacia, which was shown as part of SPIELART at HochX in 2019, the German premiere of Drive can now be seen at HochX in the days leading up to the Hungarian parliamentary elections.
