Kritik – Wie lese ich Tanz 2025?

In the organizer's words:

Panel discussion as part of Reframing Dance

How can contemporary dance be read today? In an artistic landscape in which dance, performance, theater, music and media art are increasingly merging, expectations of criticism, language and perception are also changing. The panel Critique - How do I read dance 2025? invites you to question these changes together.

The focus is on central questions of the current dance discourse:
How do legibility and resonance come about? What responsibility does criticism bear in a year in which political and financial conditions are coming under increasing pressure? What can a dialog between critics and artists look like that goes beyond mere evaluation and creates space for productive friction? And: How can dance be communicated without simplifying it or taking away the sharpness of its complexity?

The panel aims to open up new perspectives on the relationship between dance and criticism. The aim is to search for a language that does justice to the hybrid character of contemporary art - and to understand criticism as an active part of an artistic ecosystem. This involves the role of institutions as well as questions of funding, responsibility and sustainability.

We cordially invite artists, critics, mediators and interested parties to join in the discussion and think together about the future of reading, describing and understanding dance.
