Lima in the summer of 1992: events come thick and fast between galloping inflation and acts of terrorism by the "Shining Path". In the midst of social and political chaos, Lucia and Aurora, together with their mother Elena, prepare to leave Peru for the USA. The three look forward to their departure with conflicting feelings - from their country, from family and friends and from Carlos, their father and ex-husband. He, a charming airhead, has hardly been seen for a long time. Now, as the travel date approaches, he tries to get closer to his daughters again...
Director Klaudia Reynicke herself left Peru with part of her family at the age of ten. Her film paints a multi-layered picture of a family and a country. Awarded the Grand Prix of the International Jury in the Kplus section at the Berlinale.

Swiss-Peruvian screenwriter and director Klaudia Reynicke grew up between Peru, Switzerland and the USA. Her feature films IL NIDO (2016) and LOVE ME TENDER (2019) both screened at Locarno and other renowned festivals, while her third film REINAS premiered at Sundance, won an award at the Berlinale and was nominated for an Oscar.
