Is the world not left? May walk under the sign of love

The cultural walk on May 1st takes us through the beautiful little town of Pegau along the Schwennigke to Groitzsch and up to Wiprechtsburg Castle. The walk is all about love, as Ulrike von Levetzow, probably Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's last great love, was born in Groitzsch.

When Goethe met the 17-year-old Ulrike in Marienbad in 1821, he himself was already 72 years old. In 1823, he even wrote to her mother asking her to marry him. The marriage proposal was politely declined. Ulrike von Levetzow died at an advanced age as the Lady of the Holy Sepulchre in Trziblitz. Goethe created a literary monument to her with his Marienbad Elegy.

Let yourself be inspired by this unfulfilled love story. Give the landscape and the small villages your full attention, get to know each other as you walk together and exchange ideas. The walk will be accompanied by Leipzig actor Armin Zarbock, who will recite some verses from the Marienbad Elegies during a break at Wirpechtsburg Castle. We also expect music from Leipzig guitarist Jörg Schneider.

A small picnic is included for you. If you are very hungry, you should pack a lunch box.

The event will take place whatever the weather.

What is a cultural walk? We want to walk with you through interesting places and landscapes and draw your attention to the remarkable history and events that have taken place there. We would like to invite you to take in the stories, talk to each other and enjoy nature. We offer cultural contributions and a relaxed picnic together, embedded in a short hike.
