Experiences of an Auctioneer: Perspectives on the Art Market
Lecture by Tobias Meyer followed by a discussion with Yilmaz Dziewior
Tobias Meyer's art expertise and insider knowledge are as unique as his influence. At Christie's and Sotheby's in London and New York, he has auctioned the most expensive works of art in the world. After breaking all sales records at a young age, he left the auction business in 2013. In his lecture, he looks back on his career and provides perspectives on the global art market.
Tobias Meyer (*1963, Frankfurt a. M.) began his career at Christie's London in 1989. In 1992, he was hired by Sotheby's as the first expert to head the European contemporary art department. In 1997, he was promoted to global head of the contemporary art department in New York. Today, Meyer is a global private art dealer and consultant.
"Art in Context" is a lecture series organized by the Gesellschaft für Moderne Kunst at the Museum Ludwig and is generously made possible by Flossbach von Storch SE.
