Under the direction of composer Rafael Marino Arcaro, soprano Hannah Dienes-Williams and the Utak ensemble are bringing an extraordinary concert to Germany, consisting entirely of world premieres and spanning a century of Latin American music from 1927 to 2026. Works from Brazil, Chile, Peru, Cuba, and Mexico blend early modernism with contemporary voices in a cross-generational cultural encounter. At the heart of the program is the world premiere of “what i learned from manoel de barros: / o que aprendi com manoel de barros:,” Marino Arcaro’s musical setting of Manoel de Barros’s 1998 poetry collection. This new work transforms the poet’s language—marked by fragility—into a bold vocal soundscape and brings to life the quieter rural regions of Brazil.
