Kuratorenführung: Dorothea von Stetten-Kunstpreis 2026. Tohé Commaret – Sarah-Anaïs Desbenoit – Pol Taburet

The Dorothea von Stetten Art Prize has been awarded every two years at the Kunstmuseum Bonn since 1984. Since 2014, the prize has been open to young artists from Germany’s neighboring countries, with the aim of strengthening transnational networks. This year, the jury awarded the prize, worth 10,000 euros, to Tohé Commaret from France, who will share the prize money with her fellow finalists.

The winner:

The jury selected Tohé Commaret’s presentation from among the submissions of the three finalists and explained its decision as follows:

“We are deeply impressed by the high quality of the works by all three nominated artists. We were particularly impressed not only by the works themselves but also by their spatial arrangements. We would like to especially highlight the close collaboration on the exhibition, which is reflected in the shared introductory space. We view this collaborative approach—particularly in the context of an award ceremony—as a respectful gesture among the artists.
Among the three finalists, we were particularly moved by the works of Tohé Commaret. With her striking visual language, she captures the poetry and hope—but also the doubts and uncertainties—of the present. The Parisian suburb of Vitry-sur-Seine, where the artist herself grew up, serves as both the stage and the protagonist for the everyday moments of life. For her installation at the Kunstmuseum Bonn, she also engages the unusual architecture of the small auditorium by expanding her cinematic universe through precise spatial arrangements.”
