In the middle of Theaterplatz: strange creatures crawl out of a giant blue ball. Puppet theater enchants with a play about diversity and community.
A giant blue ball in an open square. It moves slowly, ponderously and playfully at the same time. Unconventional creatures spill out of it: groping, eyeing each other curiously, acting confusedly and yet elegantly. Nobody speaks. The sphere changes color. A colorful hustle and bustle ensues. Then there are negotiations, arguments and laughter. A sequence of contradictory situations develops from this dynamic. Misunderstandings are part of it, closeness as well as distance. Step by step, a bizarre community emerges from a kind of simultaneity of situations, the aim of which is not unity but coexistence. Differences remain visible. This is precisely where their poetic power lies.
Great images and the joy of experience are the strengths of this production. Humor and visual clarity create a theatrical experience for children and adults alike. It is a play that gets by with few words and yet deals with a lot: how community is created, how differences can remain visible and how understanding is possible beyond language.
The Compagnie Ivoire Marionnet tes from Abidjan in the Ivory Coast works with a monumental large puppet that is simultaneously a figure, a space and a counterpart. It attracts attention, gathers people around it and creates a temporary focal point. Without a large stage set and without technical refinements, a theater unfolds that has a direct effect: physical, colorful, inviting.
This puppet theater tells the story of how diversity can be a common denominator in a humorous and entertaining way. When the theatrical action bubbles over as a colorful something, everyone can enjoy this diversity, pause and enjoy it. LA BOULE BLEUE succeeds in making such a complex topic as diversity tangible and accessible to young people in a sensual and playful way with astonishing simplicity.
