OPERETTA OF A DIFFERENT KIND

Das Land des Lächelns is one of Franz Lehár's works of the interwar period that is stylistically far removed from the frivolous Viennese operetta of the turn of the century. But even with this new tone, Lehár achieved worldwide success, which continues to this day, not least because of the hit song "Dein ist mein ganzes Herz". We are delighted to be able to present this great representative of the genre as part of our operetta summer with an operetta of a somewhat different kind.

MOVING STORY IN A NEW PRODUCTION

Lehár's legendary operetta is the first of its kind not to have a happy ending. We are presenting this moving story for the first time in Germany in the new acclaimed production by the Budapest Operetta Theater. The orchestra, the soloists and the large ensemble will take the hearts of the audience in Munich by storm, just as they did in Hungary.

FROM VIENNA TO CHINA

Liza, the daughter of a Viennese aristocratic family, and Prince Sou-Chong, the heir to the Chinese throne, fall in love. But the young people, who have fled to the Far East to escape their father's warnings, seem to find their personal freedom only in exotic surroundings after the chilly atmosphere of the imperial city. Liza is initially excited about the surroundings she is about to explore, but is also a little afraid of the unknown. And Sou-Chong is t orn between his deep feelings for his love, his sense of duty and the traditions of his thousand-year-old empire. Will they have the strength to stand by each other?
