LE PARC

Le Parc is about the phases of gallant seduction and offers a fascinating look at the fleeting moments of love. In the course of the action, a game develops between temptation and devotion, between budding and disappointed love affairs, between fleeting and yet long-lasting encounters. As an adaptation of Choderlos de Laclos' epistolary novel Dangerous Liaisons from 1782 and other works from the period, Angelin Preljocaj takes a contemporary look at the highly stylized traditions and rules of love and life in the 17th and 18th centuries. The choreography plays with elements from both classical and contemporary ballet, demanding extreme precision from the dancers. The main couple become increasingly close over the three acts of the ballet and finally come together in the final pas de deux, which has become known as the "flying kiss". Angelin Preljocaj created Le Parc in 1994 for the Paris Opera Ballet with Isabelle Guérin and Laurent Hilaire in the leading roles.

Various orchestral works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart set the tone for the amorous entanglements, as do the soundscapes and soundscapes created especially for Le Parc by Goran Vejvoda. Thierry Leproust's stage design is based on classical parks in France and creates an ambiguous space for the mystery of love. In it, costume designer Hervé Pierre sets in motion a fascinating interplay of fabrics. He dresses the ensemble in rococo fashion and makes use of the exciting contrast between the courtly dress code and bourgeois rule-breaking.
