LEIPZIG TANZT! - GISELLE

In the organizer's words:

In May 2005, six girls came together and founded an ensemble. They embarked on a journey together that not only showed them the world, but also allowed them to grow and develop together. The group "Sjaella" is firmly anchored in the universal vocal music scene and manages to inspire its audience with its diverse repertoire, exciting collaborations and new sounds.

Together with the Leipzig Ballet, Sjaella is now devoting itself to one of the greatest masterpieces of classical ballet: in "Giselle", a fairytale story of fate, love, forgiveness and mysticism unfolds. The women's souls are interwoven in the exchange of voices and bodies, allowing ballet director and chief choreographer Mario Schröder to rediscover the story of the peasant girl who dies of a broken heart. Again and again, questions arise about the right moments for opportunities and decisions.

Experience a spherical combination of dance, voice and bodies and the first collaboration between the "Sjaella" ensemble, the Leipzig Ballet and the Gewandhaus Orchestra.

Under the motto "Leipzig dances!", the Leipzig Ballet invites you to experience the art form of ballet in all its facets in summer 2024, to be moved, to move and to enter into a discourse about what ballet was, is and can be.

In addition to exciting guests such as the Akram Khan Company or the ballet of the Slovenian National Theatre Maribor and, of course, works by the Leipzig Ballet, you can experience the dance city of Leipzig in an extensive supporting program.
