LEIPZIG TANZT! - PEER GYNT

In the organizer's words:

Edward Clug tells the story of the daredevil Peer, who always wants to be someone else in the conflict between individualistic dreams and established social codes. In 2015, the long-standing ballet director of the Slovenian National Ballet in Maribor created his first full-length ballet for "his" company from Henrik Ibsen's world-famous drama.
Clug tells the story of Peer Gynt's adventures to become the Mountain King, his travels and his return to a waiting Solveig as a parable about life and death. The well-known incidental music by Edvard Grieg was supplemented by other works by the Norwegian composer.

Since its world premiere in Maribor, "Peer Gynt" has been adopted by companies such as the Vienna State Ballet and the Zurich Ballet, and the Slovenian National Ballet has successfully toured Europe.

As part of "Leipzig tanzt!", the ensemble led by Edward Clug is making its first guest appearance in Leipzig.

Under the motto "Leipzig tanzt!", the Leipzig Ballet invites you to experience the art form of ballet in all its facets in summer 2024, to be moved, to move and to enter into a discourse about what ballet was, is and can be.

In addition to exciting guests such as the Akram Khan Company or the ballet of the Slovenian National Theatre Maribor and, of course, works by the Leipzig Ballet, you can experience the dance city of Leipzig in an extensive supporting program.
