LEIPZIG TANZT! - SELECTIVE BREEDING

In the organizer's words:

Selective breeding, also known as artificial selection, is a method used by humans to develop new organisms with desirable traits. Breeders select two parents that have the favorable phenotypic traits to reproduce, resulting in offspring with the desired traits: Corn grows huge, turkeys have lost the ability to reproduce, cows produce cows produce an incredible amount of milk, dachshunds grow ridiculously long. In the desperate effort to improve human living standards, animal welfare is systematically disregarded. What if humans were to reproduce selectively? Artificial selection? Ethical? "Selective Breeding" is an indictment of this selfish manipulation. A scientist, a butcher, two chicks and a salmon create a gigantic parody based on the accusation of this hypocritical practice.

The contemporary, project-based company IVONA was founded in 2019 by Pablo Girolami. As an association of various artists who are involved in diverse artistic languages, including beyond dance, IVONA sees itself as a contemporary testimony to professional artistic research.

Under the motto "Leipzig dances!", the Leipzig Ballet invites you to experience the art form of ballet in all its facets in summer 2024, to be moved, to move and to enter into a discourse on what ballet was, is and can be.

In addition to exciting guests such as the Akram Khan Company or the ballet of the Slovenian National Theatre Maribor and, of course, works by the Leipzig Ballet, you can experience the dance city of Leipzig in an extensive supporting program.
