LEIPZIG TANZT!: SULLE SPONDE DEL LAGO – AM UFER DES SEES

Choreographer Alessandro Schiattarella, together with the dancers of the FORWARD DANCE COMPANY and their artistic project director Gustavo Fijalkow, will take a critical and personal look at one of the most famous works of classical ballet: Swan Lake.

Swan Lake - set to music by Tchaikovsky - is one of the best-known works of classical ballet and thus also representative of a certain idealized image of the body. It still shapes our viewing habits and expectations of dance today. The six dancers play with these expectations. They weave their experiences and voices - humorous and loud or quiet and threatening - into the piece. The result is a multi-layered mosaic of Swan Lake that appears different depending on the perspective. Initially fragmented, the dancers nevertheless come together to form a "collective, utopian human-machine organism" (Steffen Georgi). This critical and personal view of Swan Lake in SULLE SPONDE DEL LAGO - AM UFER DES SEES is not created in a vacuum, but is part of a tradition of iconic Swan Lake productions that have critically appropriated the material.

LEIPZIG TANZT! is the motto of Leipzig Ballet's international dance festival in summer 2024. From June 21-29, the festival invites you to experience the art form of ballet in all its facets, to be moved, to move and to enter into a discourse on what ballet was, is and can be. In addition to guests such as the Akram Khan Company or the ballet of the Slovenian National Theatre Maribor and works by the Leipzig Ballet itself, Leipzig as a city of dance can be experienced in an extensive supporting program. We are delighted to be part of this special festival in cooperation with the Leipzig Ballet.
