Leipziger Gespräch mit Prof. Dr. Michael Maul - Intendant des Bachfestes Leipzig

Michael Maul, born in Leipzig in 1978, is a musicologist at the Leipzig Bach Archive, professor at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and has been the director of the Leipzig Bach Festival since 2018. He made headlines with the discovery of the unknown Bach aria "Alles mit Gott und nichts ohn' ihn" BWV 1127 (2005) and Bach's earliest music manuscripts (2006).

A central concern of his is the vivid communication of current musicological research to a wide audience. His latest book, volume 1510 of the Insel-Bücherei with the title "BACH - Wie wunderbar sind Deine Werke! - Eine Liebeserklärung an die Musik des Thomaskantors Bach", was on the SPIEGEL bestseller list for several weeks in 2023 and was awarded the Gleim Literature Prize. In addition, the MDR podcast "Der Bach-Kanal mit Maul & Schrammek" quickly became one of the most successful classical music podcasts. To mark the 300th episode, the popular hosts Michael Maul and Bernhard Schrammek are going on a LIVE tour throughout Germany in 2026. Michael Maul was awarded the City of Leipzig Tourism Prize in the "Personality of the Year" category for his conception of the 2018 Bach Festival. The Leipzig Bach Festival welcomes around 75,000 guests from over 50 countries every year and this year's motto is "In Dialogue".

Since 1994, Leipzig residents have had the opportunity to engage in conversation with public figures at the Leipzig Talks. Guests from politics, business and culture accept the invitation from the Leipzig Adult Education Center and Sparkasse Leipzig.
