Since the 1970s, lesbians from all over the world have been drawn to the island of Lesbos, the birthplace of the ancient Greek poet Sappho, a lesbian place of longing. An active lesbian community developed in the coastal village of Eressos, where women were finally able to live and love openly and freely. Today there is a lesbian bar in the village as well as several hotels and restaurants run exclusively by and for women. On the beach, the women are among themselves.
Tzeli Hadjidimitriou, herself a lesbian and from Lesbos, talks about 40 years of community and love, about what it means to finally feel accepted and to find a second home away from home, but also about conflicts with conservative residents who feel threatened by the lesbians.
