What’s left when you no longer have to impress anyone?

Both in her job and as a self-sacrificing daughter, Ioana believes in hard work. She ignores the fact that the lines between self-improvement and delusion are blurred.

The upcoming pitch—which is supposed to land her the long-awaited senior position—is simply too important. Then, unexpectedly, she has to travel to Romania for her grandfather’s funeral. Once there, she is confronted with her family’s history—at times crazy and endearing, at others abysmal—and a country she no longer recognizes. Soon she begins to doubt the memories of her childhood summers and the stories her parents told her.

Alexandra-Maria Pipos, born in Romania in 1989 and raised in Germany, studied International Relations and Communication and Cultural Management. In 2021, she won the writing competition hosted by the Literaturhaus Zürich. *Gib mir alles* is her first novel.
