The wide world - New York to Cape Town
Reading and discussion with Lutz van Dijk
The autobiographical novel by the now 70-year-old author and activist Lutz van Dijk
takes us from New York via Hamburg, Jerusalem and Amsterdam to Cape Town. In the process
van Dijk writes about both very personal experiences and socio-political
socio-political commitment in various countries. At the reading in Münster
will focus on his almost 25 years in Cape Town. From 1997 he reported
journalistic report on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in democratic
South Africa under Nelson Mandela. In 2001, he moved from Amsterdam to Cape Town, where he
where he set up a house for street children in a township. There he wrote many books for
children and young people such as "Themba" (first published in Munich in 2006, then made into a movie in 2010)

or the non-fiction book "Africa - History and Diversity of a Continent" (Wuppertal 2025).
The fight for participation and justice are van Dijk's driving forces.

Lutz van Dijk, writer, doctor of education, former employee of the Anne Frank
Foundation in Amsterdam, involved in a township near Cape Town since 2001. In 2014 he was
as Citizen of the Year in South Africa in 2014, and in 2023 he received the Stonewall
the Stonewall Human Rights Award for his life's work. He now lives in Amsterdam and
Cape Town.
Moustapha Diallo, publicist, doctorate in literature, his work focuses on interculturality, postcolonialism
His work focuses on interculturality, post-colonialism and migration discourses. He is the editor
of the book "Visionaries of Africa" (Peter Hammer Verlag, 2014, KADDU Verlag, 2022).
