We cordially invite you to a reading with Theodor Ertel from his novel Der Geschmack von seltsamen Wörtern - a quiet, touching book about language, childhood and the struggle to find one's own voice. In conversation: Gregor Höppner (Anthea Verlag), director, actor and author, known for his engagements in Cologne, Hamburg, Wuppertal and other cities as well as his work for film, radio and television.

What the novel is about:
In 1961, two-year-old Adrian is stranded with his family at Cologne Central Station. A new beginning full of confinement, poverty and the foreignness of a language that is bigger than his world. While a home first has to be fought for outside, a cosmos of words grows in Adrian's head: quiet, stubborn, humorous. Words such as money, work, politics and religion take on new meanings - depending on who is speaking them and the life behind them.

With subtle humor and poetic clarity, Theodor Ertel tells of growing up between languages, of memory and belonging - and of how a child reinvents his world, word by word.
